Description
A small blue-black pinkgill with pink-blue gills and a characteristic dark serrated gill edge.
Identification features
Cap about 1–4 cm, blue-black, dry, finely scaly and often depressed with age. Gills start pale blue, become pink-blue, while the edges remain blackish-blue and serrated. Stem is dark blue to nearly black.
Identification checklist
Check the blue-black cap and stem and especially the serrated blackish-blue edges of the gills as they turn pink.
How to separate similar species
Entoloma chalybeum is also blue but lacks the characteristically dark serrated gill edges. Entoloma often requires very careful identification.
Habitat
Grows in small groups among grass, beside roads and on sandy grassland in late summer and autumn.
