Description
A thin fan-shaped crust fungus with a velvety multicolour-zoned upper surface and smooth yellowish fertile surface that yellows when bruised.
Identification features
Fruitbodies are 2–7 cm wide, leathery, fan-shaped and wavy. The upper surface is velvety and zoned grey, orange and brown; the underside is smooth.

How to separate similar species
Stereum hirsutum is more distinctly hairy and usually more orange-brown beneath. Trametes has pores.
Habitat
