Description
A thin tough crust-bracket with a yellow to orange-brown hairy upper surface and smooth yellowish underside without pores.
Identification features
Fruitbodies are thin, fan-shaped and often overlapping. The upper surface is distinctly hairy and zoned; the underside is smooth, yellow to orange-ochre.

How to separate similar species
Trametes species have visible pores underneath; Stereum does not.
Habitat
Grows on dead wood of many broadleaved trees, often on branches and stumps, through much of the year.
