Description

An orange milkcap characteristically associated with larch, with white latex and a mild to slightly bitter taste.

Identification features

The cap is orange to yellow-orange, smooth and somewhat sticky when damp. Gills are crowded and similarly coloured. The stem is orange, often paler at the base; latex remains white.

Identification checklist

Key clues are association with larch and white latex that does not turn orange or green. Also check the smooth orange cap and largely unspotted stem.

How to separate similar species

Orange milkcaps can look very similar. Use tree association, latex colour and colour changes after damage together.
