Description
A larch bolete with a dry felted-scaly brown cap, large angular pores and a characteristically hollow stem with a ring.
Identification features
The cap is 5–10 cm wide, dry, felted and brown to yellowish. Pores are large, angular and slightly decurrent. The stem is hollow and bears a white veil remnant or ring.

How to separate similar species
Suillus bovinus has a solid ringless stem and smooth cap. Tree association is important in Suillus.
Habitat
