Description
A clustered wood mushroom with a brick-red to reddish-brown cap centre and paler margin, lacking the strong green-yellow tones of sulphur tuft.
Identification features
Gills are pale when young, later grey-olive and dark; the stem is yellowish above, reddish-brown toward the base, and lacks a ring.

How to separate similar species
Compare especially with these similar species: Hypholoma fasciculare, Kuehneromyces mutabilis, Galerina marginata. Check the entire fruitbody, spore-bearing surface, stem, texture, changes after bruising and habitat. A single feature or photograph is not enough for reliable identification.
