Description

A white to yellowish-white soft cheese-like bracket on conifer wood with a strongly bitter or astringent taste.

Fruitbody 5–12 cm long, semicircular to kidney-shaped and white to yellowish. Flesh is soft and cheese-like, with small pale pores beneath.

Check the white soft cheese-like texture and growth on conifer wood. Bitterness is characteristic, but tasting is unnecessary.

Other white soft-fleshed polypores are often mild and may show different bruising reactions.

Grows mainly in autumn on conifer stumps and trunks, usually singly or in small groups.
