Description
A whitish to ochre fan-shaped polypore on conifer wood, often with water droplets on the underside.
Identification features
Fruitbody usually 5–20 cm wide, semicircular to kidney-shaped, whitish at first, later yellowish to brownish. Pores are white to cream and may pink slightly when pressed; guttation droplets are common.
Identification checklist
Check the whitish fan-shaped fruitbody on conifer wood, slightly indented margin and droplets on the porous underside.
How to separate similar species
Other white soft polypores can be very similar. Droplets alone are not sufficient for a reliable identification.
Habitat
Grows mainly on dead conifer wood, especially spruce, fir and pine, from summer into early winter.
