Description
A white to pale-yellow, thick and strongly wrinkled club-like coral fungus, often only slightly branched; the source lists it as edible.
Identification features
The fruitbody is about 4–12 cm tall, thick, irregularly club-shaped and longitudinally wrinkled. The top may be blunt or divide into a few broad flattened branches.
Identification checklist
Check the thick white to cream fruitbody with strong longitudinal wrinkles and only limited branching.
How to separate similar species
Clavulina cinerea is more finely branched and grey to violet in colour. Coral fungus identification can be difficult.
Habitat
Grows on soil in coniferous and mixed woods, along forest tracks, grassy clearings and pasture margins in summer and autumn.
