Description
A rare perennial hard bracket on spruce wood with a characteristic pink pore surface; on the Slovenian Red List.
Identification features
The fruitbody is up to about 12 cm wide and very hard. The upper surface is pinkish-brown to dark brown; the underside has fine distinctly pink pores that brown with age.

How to separate similar species
Fomitopsis pinicola is more common and lacks such a distinctly pink pore surface.
Habitat
Grows on decaying spruce wood mainly in mountainous areas; perennial fruitbodies are visible year-round.
