Description
A grey scaly Tricholoma whose gills and flesh become pink-red with age, often with blue-green stains at the stem base.
Identification features
The cap is 3–8 cm wide, grey with stronger dark scales toward the centre. Gills start whitish, become grey and later pink-red. The pale stem often shows green-blue staining at the base.

How to separate similar species
The key dangerous lookalike is poisonous Tricholoma pardinum. Because grey Tricholoma are difficult, FungiTrail does not treat this as a straightforward edible species.
Habitat
Grows in groups mainly with broadleaved trees, less often conifers, from late summer to late autumn.
