Description
An orange to dark-brown gelatinous jelly fungus on pine wood, strongly wrinkled and resembling candied raisins.
Identification features
Fruitbody is irregularly spread, strongly brain-wrinkled, orange-brown to dark brown, shiny, sticky and elastically gelatinous.
Identification checklist
Check the orange-brown brain-wrinkled gelatinous mass and especially growth on dead pine wood.
How to separate similar species
Tremella mesenterica is bright yellow and usually on hardwood. Substrate is very important for separation.
Habitat
Grows mainly on dead and fallen pine trunks from late autumn to spring.
