Description
A brownish fan-shaped wood fungus with a densely hairy cap surface and coarsely saw-edged gills.
Identification features
Cap about 2.5–10 cm wide, fan- or shell-shaped, ochre to reddish-brown and brown-hairy. Gills are pale to pinkish-brown and distinctly coarsely serrated.

How to separate similar species
Lentinellus cochleatus is funnel-shaped and often smells of anise. Related species may look similar macroscopically.
