Description
A whitish to ochre crust fungus on hardwood with irregular elongated and split pores creating a labyrinthine appearance.
Identification features
The fruitbody is resupinate, spreading patch-like over wood. The surface is white to grey, later ochre; pores are irregular, elongated and often toothed.

How to separate similar species
Irpex lacteus has a fertile surface that more strongly breaks into teeth. Crust fungi often require microscopy.
Habitat
Grows saprobically on dead hardwood and causes white rot; visible through much of the year.
