Description
A large, soft polypore whose mature surface can become yellow-ochre to almost golden.
Identification features
The cap is fan-shaped and broadly attached, white when young and later yellowish, ochre to golden. The underside is cream to pinkish and poroid. The fruitbody is thick, soft and juicy when fresh.

How to separate similar species
Similar polypores may have firmer flesh or differently coloured pores. The soft consistency and golden colouring are useful additional clues.
Habitat
Grows on trees as a plant pathogen, mainly on trunks and branches of deciduous trees.
